A Maryland teenager faces child neglect charges after authorities say she left her 6-month-old baby home alone to meet friends at a McDonald's restaurant.
The detainee was identified as Kira Faust, 19, who was arrested on Monday after a police intervention in Aberdeen, Maryland.
According to a statement issued by the Aberdeen Police Department, officers responded to a home after receiving an alert regarding a baby that had been left unattended.
“Upon arrival, officers located the baby unsupervised in unsafe and unsanitary conditions,” authorities said.
The mother would have traveled several kilometers to meet friends
Police reported that, with support from the Bel Air Police Department, officers later located Faust, who allegedly admitted to leaving the child alone while he was with friends at a McDonald's in Bel Air.
According to authorities, the restaurant is located approximately 10 miles from where the baby was kept.
The Aberdeen Police Department said it took temporary custody of the child while Child Protective Services workers coordinated a safe placement for the child.
Additionally, UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center provided essential baby care items during the emergency.
The young woman worked at a daycare, according to reports
The authorities confirmed that the young woman arrested is the mother of the baby.
Faust was formally charged with child neglect and later released on personal recognizance, according to police.
LinkedIn records cited in local reports indicate that the young woman most recently worked as a daycare teacher at Churchville Presbyterian Preschool and Daycare in Aberdeen.
