A shooting during a homecoming celebration at Lincoln University has left at least 7 injured
Several people were wounded by gunfire Saturday night after a gunman opened fire at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, according to authorities.
Lincoln University is a historically Black state public university near Oxford.
The shooting occurred shortly after 9 p.m. during the homecoming party and festival in the school's courtyard, near the football. The school is located on Baltimore Pike in western Chester County, about 50 miles from Philadelphia.
The Chester County District Attorney's office reported "multiple victims" but did not confirm the number of injuries or fatalities in a Facebook post.
Authorities found at least seven shooting victims in various conditions. All of the victims were taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment. Their identity and condition are unknown at this time.
Witnesses who spoke to NBC10 Philadelphia said people began running after several gunshots were heard during the school’s YardFest for Homecoming Week, triggering a stampede.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro also issued a statement, saying he was aware of the situation.
Local law enforcement and police in Pennsylvania and Delaware are responding to the incident.
No motive or suspects have been announced at this time.
Baltimore Pike was closed in both directions southbound toward the university, according to traffic data.
The number of injuries and their severity are unknown at this time.
