President Claudia Sheinbaum affirmed that Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca is a fugitive from justice and confirmed that the Government of Mexico maintains the extradition request presented to the United States, where the former governor of Tamaulipas currently resides. Sheinbaun explained that the request remains valid after the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) resolved that the protection that the former president promoted to avoid an arrest warrant for the crimes of organized crime and money laundering. Sheinbaum pointed out that García Cabeza de Vaca has dual nationality, Mexican and American, a situation that is why he remains in the United States while the Mexican authorities seek to have him handed over to face the judicial process.
