United Airlines will debut the new “Economy Plus” option at the end of this year: What is it about?
This new option for long-haul passengers will be implemented on the new Airbus A321XLR fleet.
This Tuesday, the largest and most important US airline in the world, United Airlines, announced that by the end of this year it will have a new travel option with which it hopes to provide its passengers with more space.
According to the airline's statement, the new option is called Economy Plus, which is basically about allowing travelers to pay for the empty middle seat; Although passengers will have more space, for now they will continue to share the fixed table in the center seat.
According to United Airlines, this change is expected to be implemented on the new Airbus A321XLR aircraft, a fleet of approximately 50 aircraft, which will include special rows of seats and open middle seats; the latter, according to the airline, will be “reused as shared spaces with large custom-made tables.”
Although the Chicago-based company has not yet published prices for this service, it did detail that the personalized tables in unoccupied middle seats will give both aisle and window seated travelers additional space to stretch out on long flights. “The table is fixed, has a soft leather-like covering and two slots for glasses.”
In this regard, Andrew Nocella, executive vice president and chief commercial officer of United, said in the statement: “We are investing in our entire fleet, from start to finish, and offering customers choice and value in every cabin,” he said.
This new proposal from United Airlines joins its recent service: the United Relax Row seats for economy class, which can be transformed into a comfortable sofa during long flights.
During the presentation, the airline highlighted that these seats would feature “individually adjustable footrests that fold at a 90-degree angle to create more space for sleeping, stretching out or watching a movie.”
