Shooting in Midland, Texas leaves at least one person dead and several injured
Officers heard gunshots coming from a building in the southwest area of ??the city and quickly cordoned off the area.
At least one person was killed and several were injured in a shooting that occurred Friday morning in Midland, Texas, according to Mayor Lori Blong, who confirmed that there are 11 victims.
Midland Police Chief Greg Snow reported on social media that officers heard gunshots coming from a building in the southwest part of the city and quickly cordoned off the area.
“Armored units were deployed and other agencies assisted in the response,” Snow stated on Facebook.
Nine victims are being treated at Midland Memorial Hospital; Four of them are still in surgery and five are stable, the hospital told CBS affiliate KOSA.
“Efforts to safely resolve the confrontation with the attacker continue,” he added.
According to Stuart Doreen, Midland's strategic communications officer, other agencies assisted in the response and work continues to end the standoff with the attacker.
“We are aware of the ongoing incident near the intersection of Industrial Avenue and Wall Street,” the city posted on its Facebook page.
"At this time, public security personnel are actively working and we ask that citizens avoid the area until further notice. Our priority is the safety of our residents and emergency services," he added.
