Paola Gárate has questioned the actions of the authorities in cases of disappearances and kidnappings in Sinaloa
Representative Paola Gárate Valenzuela, of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) in Sinaloa, reported having been the victim of an act of intimidation after a funeral wreath was placed in front of her house in Culiacán.
The event occurred on the evening of Wednesday, June 10, when the legislator found the floral arrangement at the entrance of her home.
The crown carried a ribbon with the legend "Fam. Gárate Valenzuela", which generated an immediate mobilization of security corporations and personnel from the State Attorney General's Office.
After the report, elements of the State Preventive Police, the National Guard and the Mexican Army went to the scene to protect the area, while experts began the corresponding investigations to gather evidence and determine the identity of those responsible.
The PRI leadership condemned the events and demanded a thorough investigation. The national president of the party, Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, described the incident as a direct threat against the legislator and demanded that federal and state authorities guarantee her safety.
Paola Gárate has maintained a critical stance regarding the insecurity situation in Sinaloa. From the local Congress he has denounced the violence faced by the entity, has questioned the actions of the authorities in cases of disappearances and kidnappings, and has made allegations about alleged links between political actors and criminal groups.
According to versions spread by various media, the deputy assured that she had not received direct threats before this episode, although she noted that on previous occasions she had requested protection measures due to her political activity.
To date, the State Attorney General's Office maintains an investigation open to clarify the facts and determine whether the message constitutes a direct threat against the legislator.
