Karla Sofia Gascon is excluded from the Hollywood Academy despite her nomination
The Spanish actress did not receive the official invitation to join the Hollywood Academy, recently extended to 534 new members
A few months after being nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Performer for the musical 'Emilia Perez', the actress Karla Sofia Gascon did not receive the official invitation to join the Hollywood Academy, which was extended on Thursday, June 26 to 534 new members.
According to initial reports, her fellow category members, Mikey Madison and Brazilian Fernanda Torres, were indeed invited to join the institution, while the other two candidates, Demi Moore and Cynthia Erivo, already belonged to the Academy.
Their absence from the list of new members did not go unnoticed by the public, especially since the institution's rules establish that “Academy Award nominees are automatically considered for membership and do not require sponsors.”
However, it was noted that this consideration “does not guarantee a formal invitation,” as was the case with Karla Sofía Gascon this year.
This year's guest list includes, in addition to actors, producers and filmmakers, television stars such as Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Kimmel. Likewise, other relevant figures within the film industry were considered: executives, lawyers, and representatives.
This is not the only way in which the Academy sought to diversify its members. 41% of those selected are women, 45% come from underrepresented communities, and 55% reside outside the United States, including 60 different countries and territories.

Amid the commotion generated by the news, the actress issued a message in which she showed that far from being upset with the decision, she accepts it with humility and does not rule out the possibility of receiving the invitation in the future.
“I have not received anything officially... If they decide to invite me, I will accept it with all honor, the affection and love of my heart,” she told the EFE Agency.
“I can only continue working by putting all my soul into the characters I play and demonstrating, in my personal life, that I have nothing to do with the negative image that some have tried to create of me,” the famous woman added.
