Karol G responded to the accusations of alleged plagiarism in her new album
This week, the Colombian singer released her fifth studio album, which she described as “a love letter to her roots and her identity.”
After the release of Tropicoqueta, Karol G was accused of plagiarism for some of the samples she used in some of her new songs. Finally, the singer responded to the accusations.
Through a recent live broadcast on her TikTok account, the Colombian singer explained that using samples from other songs is not plagiarism.
“Inspo is inspo. One thing is inspiration and another thing is copying. Clearly I have samples in 'Latina Foreva', 'Cuando me muera te olvido' and 'Tropicoqueta'. Nothing more,” she indicated.
The criticism focused on the similarity of some songs to previous hits, such as the references that “Latina Foreva” has to “Oye mi canto” by Daddy Yankee and NORE.
Karol G also addressed the controversy over using the audio of the child “Felipe,” known for a viral video on TikTok, in her song “Tropicoqueta.”
“I have Felipe in the song because he is part of the song. His family is part of the track,” assured the singer.
On Friday, Karol G released Tropicoqueta, her fifth studio album, which takes her on a journey through Latin America through rhythms like merengue, bachata, mambo, and mariachi.
In total, Tropicoqueta is made up of 20 songs, including collaborations with artists like Marco Antonio Solís and Manu Chao.
Karol G said that Tropicoqueta is a love letter to her roots, to her identity. A project into which she put her heart and soul, and with which, she believes, many will feel identified.
“This album sounds like a little piece of all of us. It started as a wish in August 2023. Since then, I've been leaving you some clues along the way, and I can say that when I finished it, I did so with my heart full of the love I received in every country I visited…” she affirmed.
