Shakira promises a historic show for the World Cup final
The artist shared details about the first halftime show at the World Cup, where she will share the stage with Madonna, BTS and Justin Bieber
World Cup fever is not only experienced on the fields. Shakira once again took center stage by confirming that the halftime show for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final will be an unprecedented event.
In an interview with Billboard, the singer from Barranquilla detailed the preparations for the format inspired by the Super Bowl, designed to unite the passion of sport with the power of music.
For the first time in the history of the World Cup finals, a mega musical show will be implemented during the break of the final match. The event, scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, will bring together a stellar cast that includes Madonna, BTS and Justin Bieber in an 11 to 15 minute window.
“I have to think very carefully about how to do it, to make it a little different from what I did at the inauguration,” the artist admitted honestly during the interview when referring to the enormous logistical challenge of coordinating so many global legends in such a short period of time.
“It's going to be a shared halftime show… it's going to be quite historic, five incredible artists, well, four incredible artists plus me,” he added.
Despite the challenge, Shakira was enthusiastic about the magnitude of the project and confessed her desire to add more surprises to the stage, mentioning Chris Martin, vocalist of Coldplay, as one of her long-awaited guests.
Beyond the technical display and choreography, this historic concert has a deep philanthropic character. The event is allied with the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund Foundation, and the proceeds will fund school infrastructure projects and enhance access to education and sport for children in vulnerable communities around the planet.
The announcement consolidates an extraordinary year for the Colombian. His most recent single with the Nigerian artist Burna Boy, “Dai Dai”, adopted as one of the official songs of the tournament, has just won first place on the Billboard Global Excl chart. US
