The controversy over the film 'The Kerala Story', which is slated to release in cinema halls this Friday, is intensifying. The political atmosphere in Kerala has also heated up regarding the film. Controversy has started especially between the ruling Left Democratic Front-Congress and the BJP regarding this film.

In fact, the Kerala State Committee of the Muslim Youth League has announced a reward of Rs 1 crore for anyone who proves the allegations made in the film. He said that if someone proves the sentence shown in the film, he will be given one crore. Countering this, Pratish Vishwanath, a right-wing activist and founder of Hindu Seva Kendra, has said to give Rs 10 crore. He said that if someone can prove that no one from Kerala had gone to Syria to join IS, he will be given Rs 10 crore.

These leaders criticized

Notably, both the CPI(M) and the opposition Congress criticized the makers of the film. He said that they are carrying forward the Sangh Parivar's propaganda of projecting the state as the epicenter of religious extremism by raising the bogey of 'love jihad'. At the same time, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan accused the Sangh Parivar of sowing poisonous seeds of communalism. He said that the Sangh Parivar was trying to destroy religious harmony in the state.

No demand to ban the film

The Bharatiya Janata Party has defended the film. On this, Shashi Tharoor tweeted and asked Keralites to come forward for their truth. He said that I am not demanding a ban on the film. I want to stress that freedom of expression does not cease to be valuable just because it can be misused. But Keralites have every right to say that this is a misinterpretation of our reality.

When Suresh Shenoy, an office-bearer of the Film Exhibitors United Organization of Kerala (FEUOK) and owner of a theater complex in Kochi, was told in the media that such a film sets a bad precedent and amounts to censorship. To this Suresh Shenoy said that banning a film is futile as the audience can watch it on OTT platform.
