Shakira shows her support for those affected by the floods in Texas
Through her Instagram and X stories, Shakira expressed her solidarity with those affected in south-central Texas
The severe floods that have affected south-central Texas have left a tragic toll of at least 50 dead, including 15 minors, while rescue efforts continue in search of dozens of missing people. In the face of this crisis, not only local authorities and residents have shown their concern, but also international figures such as Colombian singer Shakira, who has expressed her support for the victims.
Through her X account (formerly Twitter), where she has more than 52 million followers, Shakira shared her dismay at the situation in Texas.
“I just landed in San Antonio, devastated to hear the news of the floods, the deaths, and the girls still missing,” the artist wrote. “I can only think of their families and their immense pain. My prayers are with you on this sad day.”
But her support was not limited to words. In a second message, she announced that she will donate part of the proceeds from her concert at the Alamodome in San Antonio to Catholic Charities in San Antonio, an organization that provides humanitarian aid to those affected. Additionally, she invited her followers to contribute through a donation link.
The tragedy in numbers
According to reports from local authorities, Kerr County is the hardest hit, with 43 confirmed deaths. It is followed by Travis County, with four fatalities, Burnet with two, and Tom Green, with one. The intense rains have caused rivers and streams to overflow, creating chaos on roads and in entire communities.
Even the President of the United States, Donald Trump, signed an emergency decree to respond to the situation.
While emergency teams work tirelessly, the solidarity of celebrities like Shakira provides a ray of hope. Her call for humanitarian aid not only contributes financially, it also highlights the urgency of supporting those who have lost everything.
