CBI has taken over Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Tiktok star Sonali Phogat murder case from Goa Police. CBI has also registered an FIR in this case. This information is being received from CBI sources.

The Union Home Ministry had ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of Sonali Phogat. The ministry took this step following the request of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. The Ministry of Home Affairs has recommended to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) to get the matter investigated by the CBI. CBI works under the administrative control of DoPT. The death of BJP leader Phogat from Hisar in Haryana is being considered as a case of murder.

It is known that Sonali Phogat, 43, a Tik-Tok star and contestant of reality TV show Bigg Boss, was brought dead on August 23 at a hospital in North Goa. Phogat had reached the coastal state of Goa a day before that with two of her aides. Goa Police has arrested five people in connection with the case, including two of Phogat's associates Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh. The police have also arrested Dattaprasad Gaonkar, who had allegedly provided narcotics to Sagwan and Singh and both of them gave it to Phogat. Another arrested person, Edwin Nunes, is the owner of Curlies restaurant in North Goa district where Phogat and his associates had a 'party' that night. In the case, the police have also arrested Rama Mandrekar, a resident of Anjuna in North Goa and an alleged drug smuggler. He had allegedly supplied narcotics to Gaonkar.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jeevba Dalvi had said that Phogat was given methamphetamine and some quantity of it was recovered from the restaurant's toilet. Police had said that Sangwan and Singh allegedly mixed some substance in the water and forced Phogat to drink. Doctors said Phogat had suffered a heart attack, but his brother alleged that Sangwan and Singh played a role in his death. The police made the arrests after the post-mortem report came and registered an FIR with the charge of murder. Police had said that economic interest could be one of the motives behind Phogat's murder.
