Tom Holland reveals how he influenced the plot of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”
The British actor shared details about the creative process he was part of for the making of the fourth installment of “Spider-Man”
Just a few months before the premiere of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, the fourth installment in which Tom Holland gives life to the acclaimed superhero, the actor has revealed some details about the creative process in which he was involved to bring a new proposal to fans of the original story to the big screen.
In an interview with Empire magazine, the star of productions such as “Uncharted” and “Cherry” confessed that his work in the film was not limited to being in front of the cameras. On this occasion, he had an active participation in the creative development of the project.
According to his testimony, this role gave him the opportunity to attend meetings with the producers and the creative team to discuss ideas and narrative objectives within the film. And although at first his ideas were rejected by the team, he finally managed to propose a premise that became one of the central plot lines of the project.
This is how Tom Holland put the concept “Spider-Puberty” on the table, which refers to the period in which 'Spider-Man' loses some control over his powers unexpectedly. But how did the production react? The actor remembered it with humor:
"My proposal, when I presented it, was called 'Spider Puberty'. What happens if Peter Parker loses control and things change? 'Spider Puberty' was my slogan for the studio, which was rejected immediately. But they liked the main idea and it became what we have now in the film," he commented to the portal.
Likewise, Holland acknowledged that this experience sparked his interest in contributing creatively to the future stages of his character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in which he debuted in 2016, within the film “Captain America: Civil War.”
Regarding this possibility, the famous man said: "For whoever is next, whether it's Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to participate in the creation of the next chapter. I don't know what it will be like. But if he could do for me what Downey did, I would be completely happy to retire."
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will hit theater screens on July 29, marking the return of Tom Holland in the role of “Peter Parker” after the historic success of its predecessor “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (2021).
This production grossed more than $1.92 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of that year, as well as the first to surpass the $1 billion dollar mark during the Covid-19 pandemic.
