Jorge Ramos wins the Emmy after his leap into independent digital journalism
"Jorge Ramos: Así Veo Las Cosas" won the Emmy for Best News Program in Spanish, being the first independent video podcast to achieve this
The Mexican journalist Jorge Ramos, through his independent digital production company Tres Alebrijes, has emerged as the grand winner of the 2026 News and Documentary Emmy Award, in the category Best News Program in Spanish for his program “Jorge Ramos: Así Veo Las Cosas”.
With this triumph, the communicator and the executives María Martínez-Guzmán and Bilai Joa Silar have made history, as it is the first independent news video podcast in Spanish to receive the industry's highest recognition in this category.
“This Emmy belongs to our audience,” commented Jorge Ramos, host and partner of Tres Alebrijes. “They followed us to our new home, and from here we can do what we have always believed in: offer independent, direct and uncompromising journalism.”
This award proves that independent journalism can compete with traditional media and win." Jorge Ramos – Journalist
Tres Alebrijes recognizes that the success of his project did not come alone. For this reason, he extended his gratitude to the Marguerite Casey Foundation and YouTube for their support of “Jorge Ramos: Así Veo Las Cosas”: “For contributing to making possible a space for independent and digital-first journalism, based on trust, credibility and direct connection with audiences,” it was declared in a statement released by the independent production company.
And this connection with the public translates into record-breaking data and boosts the reach of Spanish-language media. In March 2026 alone, “Jorge Ramos: Así Veo Las Cosas” generated 101 million views on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, while the main YouTube channel registered 4.85 million monthly unique users that same month.
"The question of whether trust and credibility belong to the institution or the individual has never been more relevant. 'Jorge Ramos: Así Veo Las Cosas' offers a clear answer," the writing adds.
Jorge Ramos opted for closeness with the public through “As I See Things”
Weeks ago, in an exclusive talk with journalist Clary Castro for La Opinión, the communicator opened up about what he described as “his new reality,” after a long career as the face of the news area on the Univision network.
Firm in his decision to explore new facets as a professional, Jorge Ramos found himself in a project with creative freedom, but with many challenges.
"We are a credible, sustainable, legitimate digital media outlet. This experiment is giving good results. The next challenge is to make it economically sustainable, on the one hand, and the second challenge is to open the door to others who are doing exactly the same thing," he explained at the time.
Despite these challenges, for Ramos it has been more than a privilege to remain relevant to an audience that has migrated to digital media: "I think that what I do now represents a Jorge that is much more intimate, more personal, closer to people. More like I have always been," he explained.
One of the opportunities that his independent project has given him is to provide insight into his opinions and points of view that he previously avoided so as not to lose the neutrality that was demanded.
“If you follow the program, you will realize that I not only say what is happening, but that I have the opportunity to give my opinion and be pro-immigrant, pro-Latino, pro-democracy and pro-freedom… Those are possibilities that simply did not apply to me before and that now I can do that,” Ramos commented.
