Emilia Clarke talks about the end of “Game of Thrones”: “I had no creative participation”
The end of the HBO series generated a negative impact on fans and, in an interview, the actress addressed this phenomenon
The end of “Game of Thrones” surprised with its ending, which generated collective disgust among fans. However, Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, revealed, in an interview with Variety, that she also felt frustration about the outcome of the famous series.
Furthermore, Clarke was forceful in stating that he never had any influence on the creative directions of the series. “In addition to what I contributed as an actress, I had no creative participation, nor did I want it,” she declared.
According to her story, during the eight years that filming lasted, she assumed that she was not in a position to discuss or modify the decisions of the showrunners of the HBO drama.
The interpreter recalled that David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, the creators of the television adaptation, exercised iron control over each line of dialogue. “If I said ‘this’ instead of ‘that’, they asked me to do another take,” he exemplified, underlining the millimeter demand during filming.
Asked if she ever tried to convince them to change Daenerys' controversial ending, Clarke responded: "No."
Frustration over the end
The outcome of the Mother of Dragons, who went from being a liberator of oppressed peoples to devastating an entire city before dying at the hands of Jon Snow, generated a wave of criticism among followers.
The actress herself admitted that at the time she felt deep irritation. But, far from attacking those responsible, he described them as “geniuses” and assured that his job was to understand his character's motivations to convey them honestly.
“They gave me the seasons and, to the best of my ability, I empathized, understood and followed every decision she made so that she felt like mine,” she explained.
Time, the actress points out, ended up doing its job. Although for years he tried to process the media and personal impact that the series left on him, today he claims to have closed that cycle. “I have gone through every possible path to get to the place I am now, which is finally being able to be very grateful for everything that “Game of Thrones” did for me and gave me,” she said.
Clarke confessed that she no longer feels trapped in that global phenomenon or in the shadow of Daenerys Targaryen. "I feel really lucky that it happened to me, and even luckier that I had the time to understand what that was all about. Now I firmly feel that I am on the other side," she declared.
