Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra's upcoming film Thank God has been mired in controversies ahead of its release. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the alleged objectionable remarks regarding Lord Chitragupta in the film, requesting a stay on its release. But the court on Wednesday refused to list the petition for urgent hearing. The film is releasing in theaters on October 25.

A bench of Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi listed the petition of Shree Chitragupta Welfare Trust for hearing on November 1. Along with staying the release of the film, the petition has also sought a direction that the film's trailers and posters be removed from electronic and social media platforms like 'YouTube' as they purportedly contain "characters of Lord Chitragupta". There are derogatory expressions, acts, statements, dialogues and derogatory pictures and videos around it.

The counsel for the petitioner said that if the petition is heard after the release of the film on October 25, it will become useless. On this, the bench said, "It can be heard later." Ajay Devgan has played the character of Lord Chitragupta in the film, who is worshiped by the people of Hindu society, especially the Kayastha community.

The petition said, "The religious sentiments of the petitioner and other Kayastha people in the country are being harmed and fundamental rights are being violated by the respondents by making and releasing the said film." The Central Board of Film Certification has made the film's director Indra Kumar, producer Bhushan Kumar and Ajay Devgan as parties.
