BAFTAs announce their longlists and 'Battle After Battle' Leading with 16 nominations
The British Academy revealed the shortlists for all its categories, but the official nominees will be announced on January 27
The awards season has kicked off just days before the Critics' Choice Awards ceremony. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has revealed the longlists in the 24 categories that make up its 2026 BAFTA Awards.
According to the announcement released by the prestigious organization, around 221 films were submitted for consideration. However, only a select group made it to the voting nomination stage.
“Battle After Battle” leads with 16 nominations, followed by “The Sinners” and “Hamnet” with 14 each.
Meanwhile, “Marty Supreme” has 13 nominations, while Guillermo del Toro's “Frankenstein” and “Bugonia” each garnered 12. Among the surprises of the shortlist is the presence of “Nuremberg” in the “Best Film” category, considered a box office success in Spain, which cements this positive reception with six shortlists from the British Academy. The voting round to determine the official nominations will begin on January 9 at 4 pm GMT for BAFTA voting members and closes on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at 6 pm. The productions and performances competing for the prestigious award will be announced next Tuesday, January 27, on the BAFTA YouTube channel, during the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards ceremony on Sunday, February 22.
