Conan O’Brien to Reprise Host Oscars in 2027
The American comedian will lead the 99th edition of the Academy Awards in a ceremony that will mark the end of an era
With this announcement, O'Brien consolidates a “trilogy” in front of the most important stage in Hollywood, after having successfully hosted the 2025 and 2026 galas.
The 99th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday March 14, 2027 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
The decision to keep O'Brien responds to the good reception of his type of humor, which managed to revitalize the interest of the young audience, elevating the audience over 20 million viewers in its last broadcast.
Conan O'Brien, true to his style, celebrated the news with humor in his podcast, joking about the longevity of his career and the challenge of overcoming the record for the longest speech set in previous editions.
Structural changes in the gala
This edition not only stands out for the continuity of its host, but for representing the beginning of a historical transformation for the cinematographic institution.
According to the Academy, the 2027 Oscars will be the penultimate ceremony held in its traditional format and location.
The 2027 edition will be one of the last at the Dolby Theatre. For its centennial in 2029, the ceremony will move to downtown Los Angeles.
Likewise, it was confirmed that the current contract with the ABC network will end soon. Starting in 2029, the global broadcast of the Oscars will move exclusively to YouTube, marking a paradigm shift toward streaming.
Adjustments have also been implemented in the promotion regulations to avoid excessive lobbying during awards season, seeking greater transparency in voting.
