Rafael Amaya reflects on the final season of El Señor de los Cielos: “We are part of history”
In an exclusive interview, the actor opened up about his return as 'Aurelio Casillas' and what lies ahead for the explosive outcome of the acclaimed series.
The countdown has begun. On July 7, the tenth and final season of “El Señor de los Cielos” premieres on Telemundo, and in the midst of expectation, Rafael Amaya shared exclusive details with us about his return as ‘Aurelio Casillas’ and what is coming for the explosive outcome of the series.
"Now they are going to be more on the edge of their seats than ever because different plots are coming, different things, and that also had to do with the characters going more to the limit... that different things were seen. Not the same, the same and the same," declared the famous man to the microphones of La Opinión.
And since its launch in April 2013, the production has opted to provide the audience with a story full of emotions and topics that not many dare to talk about.
"Telemundo is very happy because we are part of history. We were the spearhead of the narco-series genre. Starting with 'Lord of the Skies', more productions began to emerge and people who dared to tell this type of stories with different types of language, breaking the mold of melodrama (...) We feel very proud to do that," he added.
The actor continued: “We just have that formula and that is why we are in the tenth season and the most watched show on Hispanic television.”
Regardless of the passing of the years, the actor's commitment to bringing his best performance as “Aurelio Casillas” to the screen remains intact, and this was reflected on the set of season ten from day one.
"I have always been of the idea that I have to get stressed rehearsing and relax performing. So, relax and relax the technicians, the cast and make it very pleasant, but without losing seriousness, respect and concentration. That rigidity that always has to exist for things to turn out well," he said.
However, Rafael Amaya's participation did not only occur in front of the cameras. In addition to his leading role, the Mexican was fully involved in the development of the project by being executive producer, a facet that he wants to continue exploring in the coming years.
"The communication was very open, much more fun and I am very grateful to everyone... we are a team. In reality, the producer is just the one who decides or not, but those who make all this come true are the people behind it (...) I see the way of telling stories from another perspective," he stated.
Rafael Amaya will explore new horizons with “Amaya Productions”
After confirming that the tenth season of “El Señor de los Cielos” marks the definitive end of this acclaimed story, the million-dollar question is clear: what's next for Rafael Amaya?
Without hesitation, the artist confirmed that he has several projects in the pipeline through his company “Amaya Productions”, founded with his partner Maritza Ramos.
"It was a very good school 'El Señor de los Cielos'. Now I would like to continue producing and continue with new projects... that is why we are also closing this, to pay tribute to the fans who have followed us all this time," he explained.
Weeks ago it was confirmed that his first project will have Emma Coronel, the wife of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, as its main collaborator.
Although there is no start date for filming or release date yet, the famous actor announced that it is “a project based on real-life characters, but with the spark and formula of ‘The Lord of the Skies,'” he commented.
When and where to see the tenth season of “The Lord of the Skies”?

This installment marks the last participation of Rafael Amaya as the feared drug trafficker of the successful series, which was seen on screens for the first time in April 2013.
