The Jimmy Kimmel show was suspended indefinitely
ABC announced the late night show is being pulled from the air following the comedian's remarks about the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk
ABC has indefinitely suspended the late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live following a series of controversial comments made by its host, Jimmy Kimmel, about the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The decision was announced Wednesday, just days after Kimmel claimed the MAGA movement was trying to gain political advantage from Kirk's murder.
“The weekend “We hit rock bottom with the MAGA gang trying to paint the guy who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” the comedian said.
Following Kimmel’s comments, Nexstar, a major operator of ABC-affiliated stations, condemned the comedian’s remarks and announced it would replace the show in its markets.
Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, said the host’s remarks were “offensive and insensitive at a critical moment in our national political discourse” and did not represent the values ??of his local communities.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a source said the comedian planned to address the controversy over his remarks about Kirk and explain that they were taken out of context.
The source also indicated that Kimmel did not plan to apologize for his remarks, believing that what he said does not warrant an apology.
The episode comes after other tensions between networks and entertainment figures related to political positions, especially linked to Trumpism.
So far, there is no official word on whether Kimmel's show will return to the air. The move marks another blow to the network's late-night lineup, following the suspension of Stephen Colbert's The Late Show, announced in July.
