CBI takes over the investigation of illegal recruitment in CAPF, case of selection on the basis of fake documents

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe into alleged illegal recruitment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel on the basis of forged documents in West Bengal. The CBI has informed that the central probe agency had registered an FIR in this regard last week on the directions of the Calcutta High Court. The agency had conducted a preliminary inquiry to look into these allegations on the directions of the High Court. According to the investigation, many illegal candidates were recruited in the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces through fake certificates, in which some Pakistani nationals were also benefitted.
Justice Jai Sengupta, while directing, had observed, "As appears from the report filed by them (CBI), no irregularities have been found so far with regard to recruitment in the Armed Forces. However, in so far as the Central Semi- As far as employment in the armed forces is concerned, some irregularities have already been detected. During preliminary enquiry, at least four such instances have come to the fore." He had said that West Bengal, being a border state, provides lower cut-off marks in examinations for employment in central paramilitary forces.
