Earlier, senior leaders like Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, who is an alternative to the Gandhi family for the post of president, Mallikarjun Kharge and Salman Khurshid have said that efforts to persuade Rahul will continue till the last moment. Interestingly, AICC secretary Vamshi Chand Reddy tweeted that he is a PCC member from Telangana and is looking forward to signing Rahul's nomination paper as a proposer. According to the notification issued by the Congress Working Committee, the notification for the elections will be issued on September 22 and the elections will be held on October 17. If it comes to conduct the voting, the result will be declared after the counting of votes on October 19.
