President Election 2022: Draupadi Murmu, former Governor of Jharkhand and NDA's presidential candidate, will file nomination tomorrow. Before filing the nomination, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu. Draupadi Murmu is set to be elected as the 16th President after the support of Odisha's ruling party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Bihar's Janata Dal-United (JDU).

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda spoke to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the phone on Thursday and asked him about National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Draupadi Murmu (Presidential ) in the presidential election. Candidate Draupadi Murmu) urged to be present during the filing of nomination papers. Since Patnaik is on a tour of Italy, he has asked two of his cabinet colleagues, Jagannath Sarka and Tukuni Sahu, to sign the nomination papers of Draupadi Murmu and be present during the nomination, expressing regret for the unavailability.

Sarka is the Minister of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Development in Patnaik's cabinet, while Tukuni Sahu holds the portfolios of Water Resources, Commerce and Transport. Patnaik said in a tweet, 'BJP President JP Nadda spoke to me regarding the nomination of Draupadi Murmu in the presidential election. My cabinet colleagues Jagannath Sarka and Tukuni Sahu will sign the nomination papers today and will be present at the nomination program tomorrow.
Two Odisha ministers signed the nomination of Draupadi Murmu
Meanwhile, Sarka and Saha reached the residence of Union Minister Prahlad Joshi in Delhi and signed the nomination papers. Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Sasmit Patra was also present on the occasion. Murmu will file her nomination on Thursday. During this, various senior leaders of NDA including Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present with him. Murmu reached Delhi on Wednesday and also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Naveen Patnaik said- will support the 'daughter of the state'
BJD president Patnaik backed Murmu's candidature by describing him as the "daughter of the state". He appealed to all the members of the state assembly on Wednesday to support NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu in the presidential election. The ruling BJD has 114 MLAs in the 147-member Odisha Assembly. Apart from this, there are 22 members of BJP and 9 members of Congress and one member of CPI(M). There is also an independent MLA.
Yashwant Sinha to file nomination on 27th
The election for the presidency is to be held on 18 July. Nominations for this can be filled by June 29 and the election results will be announced by July 21. President Ram Nath Kovind's term ends on July 24. Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha will file his nomination on June 27. He has the support of 13 opposition parties.
