Patna: Amid talks of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar emerging as the prime ministerial candidate from the opposition, his party JD(U) on Friday said he can be an option if other parties want. JD(U) national president Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh said Nitish Kumar's main focus is on uniting opposition parties to take on the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He will visit Delhi to meet leaders of various parties after the trust vote in the Bihar Assembly next week.

Lalan Singh said that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is not the prime ministerial candidate, he has no desire to become the prime minister. But he has all the qualifications for the post of Prime Minister. Shri Singh said that Nitish Kumar wishes that all the parties unite and fight the 2024 Lok Sabha elections under one banner.

JDU leader cum Lok Sabha MP from Munger Lalan Singh further said that Nitish Kumar will mobilize non-BJP parties. He also said that all the parties should leave their ambitions and fight against the BJP unitedly. When the BJP is defeated, then it will be decided who will become the Prime Minister.

The JDU president said that Kumar, the longest-serving chief minister of Bihar and the main face of JDU, is not a contender for the prime ministerial candidate of the opposition. When asked about the party's stand on the issue of other opposition parties supporting him to take up the claim, Lalan Singh said, if other parties want, he can be an option. Lalan Singh said several opposition leaders, including Sharad Pawar and Arvind Kejriwal, congratulated Kumar after breaking ties with the BJP and forging an alliance with their rivals to form a new government in Bihar. All opposition parties should sit together to decide on the leadership to take on the BJP government led by Prime Minister Modi in the next Lok Sabha elections.
