Crime against women in India: Despite all the claims, counterclaims and laws, incidents of crime against women are increasing continuously in the country, which is not only a matter of concern but also raises serious questions about the safety of women in the country. According to the latest data of NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau), there has been an unprecedented increase in crime against women in the country.

According to NCRB, 428278 cases of crime against women were registered in the country in the year 2021 while in the year 2020 its number was 371503. Whereas in the year 2019 it was 405326. These cases have been registered under IPC and Special Law Act. In the year 2020, there was a situation of lockdown in the country, which is why less cases of crime were registered. But after the end of the lockdown, the state where the maximum number of crime cases were registered against women is Uttar Pradesh, where 56083 cases were registered. On the second place is Rajasthan, where 40738 cases were registered.

The third place is West Bengal where 35884 cases of crime against women were registered. In Bihar, 17950 cases of crime against women were registered while in Jharkhand this figure is 8110. At the same time, the incidents of crime against women in Bengal in 2020 were more than in 2021. The total registered cases were 36439.

The highest number of hate crimes like acid attack were recorded in Bengal in 2021 in the country. A total of 30 cases were reported here and 30 women were victims of acid attacks. A total of 93 cases of acid attacks were reported in the country, in which 98 women were victims. Uttar Pradesh ranks second in terms of acid attacks, where 18 incidents took place and 21 women were victims. In third place is Assam, where seven incidents happened and 9 women were victims. Goa and Gujarat are on the fourth place where six incidents each took place and the same number of women were the victims. One incident of acid attack was reported in Bihar and the victim was also the same, whereas in Jharkhand no case of acid attack was reported in the year 2021. Recently, a case of acid attack on a girl and her mother has come to light in Chatra, Jharkhand, the girl has been sent to Delhi for treatment.

There were a total of 136234 incidents of cruelty by husband in the country in which the total number of victims was 137956. That is, 20.3 women per lakh were victims of harassment or cruelty by their husbands. The highest number of cases of cruelty by husband was also reported in West Bengal where 19952 cases were reported and a total of 20052 women were victims. In second place is Uttar Pradesh where 18375 cases were reported and total victims were 18383. Rajasthan is at the third place where a total of 16949 cases were reported and the number of victims was 16973. A total of 931 cases were reported in Jharkhand and 931 women were victims, while in Bihar 2069 cases were reported and 2069 women were victims.
