New Chief of Defense Staff will be appointed soon, said Defense Minister Rajnath Singh

Rajnath Singh on Chief of Defense Staff: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on Tuesday that the appointment of a new Chief of Defense Staff will be done soon. The process for this is going on. The post of CDS has been vacant since the death of the country's first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat in a helicopter crash on 8 December 2021.

Defense Minister launched 'Agneepath Yojana'

After launching a new 'Agnipath Scheme' for recruitment in the Armed Forces, the Defense Minister said in a press conference, 'CDS will be appointed soon. Its process is on. Earlier this month, the government had also issued notifications regarding appointments to the top post.

These people will be able to become the Chief of Defense Staff of the country

According to these, any serving or retired lieutenant general, air marshal and vice-admiral below the age of 62 years will be eligible for the post of Chief of Defense Staff (CDS). As per the amendments made to the Army, Navy and Indian Air Force Acts, serving Chiefs of Army, Navy and Indian Air Force as well as officers in the three-star category are also eligible to become CDS.

Bipin Rawat became CDS on 1 January 2020

It is worth noting that General Rawat took charge as the country's first CDS on January 1, 2020, to enhance the country's overall military prowess.
