Several political parties may boycott the ceremony on May 28 amid political uproar over the inauguration of the new Parliament House. According to sources, leaders of like-minded opposition parties discussed the issue. Soon all the leaders of the House can issue a joint statement. In this, a joint boycott of the program will be announced. Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) said they would not attend the inauguration ceremony.

If sources are to be believed, the parties will take a final decision on Wednesday after receiving the formal invitation. TMC leader in Rajya Sabha Derek O'Brien wrote on Twitter that Parliament is not just a new building. It is an establishment with age old traditions, values, precedents and rules. This is the foundation of Indian democracy. Prime Minister Modi probably does not understand this. For him, the inauguration of the new building on Sunday is nothing more than 'me, mine and for me'. So consider us out of it. CPI general secretary D Raja said that his party would not attend the ceremony.

Opposition sources indicated that most parties were of the view that they should unite and boycott the ceremony. However, a final decision on the issue will be taken on Wednesday. Opposition parties have objected to the inauguration of the new Parliament House by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He says that President Draupadi Murmu should inaugurate.

On this, Congress leaders and many other opposition leaders believe that the President should inaugurate instead of the PM.
