President Murmu: President Murmu's visit to West Bengal, will launch indigenous warship of Navy today
President Draupadi Murmu will today commission the indigenous warship Vindhyagiri built for the Indian Navy.

During her nearly 31 years of service from July 1981 to June 2012, the old Vindhyagiri (INS Vindhyagiri) had seen various challenging operations and multinational exercises, the Navy said in a statement. Vindhyagiri stands as a symbol of India's determination to embrace its rich naval heritage while positioning itself towards the future of indigenous defense capabilities. A total of four ships are under construction by Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) and three ships by GRSE under the Project 17A programme.

The Vindhyagiri vessel is named after the mountain range in Karnataka
It is the sixth ship of the Project 17A frigate.
The old Vindhyagiri had participated in several multinational exercises during its 31 years of service

The first five ships of the project were unveiled between 2019-2022
The Project 17A ship has been indigenously designed by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau
75% orders for equipment and systems for Project 17A ships have been placed with indigenous companies
'My Bengal, drug free Bengal' campaign launched
During this, President Murmu will inaugurate the 'Mera Bengal, Nasha Mukt Bengal' campaign under the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' organized by Brahma Kumaris at the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata. Let me tell you, the President had visited West Bengal in March this year. After the President's arrival, he was given a guard of honor at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.
