Former Voice of America employee was accused of threats against Marjorie Taylor Greene
A Maryland man was accused of threatening Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene and her family
A man was arrested in Washington, DC and is accused of threatening Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican from Georgia, and her family members.
Threats and political violence against members of Congress and other public officials have increased as the political landscape of the country has become increasingly divisive.
Seth Jason, of Maryland, was arrested in Washington after being indicted on four counts, according to court records released Thursday.
Jason faces charges of influencing a federal official by threats to a relative, influencing a federal official by threats, interstate communications threatening kidnapping or injury, and anonymous telecommunications harassment. Jason was in custody Thursday, and court documents do not indicate he has an attorney, according to NBC News.
Seth Jason, 64, repeatedly threatened to assault and kill Greene and her family during several calls to their district offices between October 2023 and January 2025, according to his four-count indictment. Jason also threatened Greene's staff and their families, according to a Justice Department statement.
He worked for Voice of America and made threatening calls using phone lines connected to studios and control rooms at the news agency's Washington headquarters.
Jason, of Edgewater, Maryland, also volunteered as a reserve officer for the Anne Arundel County Police Department in Maryland. The department said in a statement that Jason had served as a volunteer since 2016.
Anne Arundel County reserve officers do not carry weapons and have no police authority. Mr. Jason is no longer affiliated with the Anne Arundel County Police Department, the statement said. No one should have to live with their eyes peeled for words every day, wondering if those threats are about to come true. Acting U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said at a news conference, as reported by CNN.
Pirro read aloud some of the statements Jason is accused of making during calls to Greene's offices.
"I'm looking forward to your book signing. We're all armed and ready to take care of you," Jason said, according to Pirro.
