Iran says it reserves “all options” after US attack on 3 of its nuclear facilities
The Iranian foreign minister described the US behavior as extremely dangerous, illegal and criminal
Iran described the US attack on three of its nuclear facilities on Saturday as “extremely dangerous, illegal and criminal” behavior and said it reserves “all options” to respond.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned this on the social networking site X early Sunday morning in Iran.
“The United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has committed a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law and the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty) by attacking Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities,” he wrote.
“The events of this morning are outrageous and will have long-lasting consequences. Every member of the UN should be alarmed by this extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behavior,” he stressed.
He added: “In accordance with the UN Charter and its provisions that allow for a legitimate response in self-defense, Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interests, and people.”
“We have successfully completed our attack on three nuclear facilities in Iran, including Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan,” he wrote on his social network, Truth Social.
In a televised statement afterward, he explained that the objective was “the destruction of Iran’s uranium enrichment capability and a halt to the nuclear threat posed by the number one state sponsor of terror.”
And he described the operation as a “spectacular military success.”
He also reported that it was carried out in coordination with Israel, something that was later confirmed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who congratulated Trump on the raid.
“History will remember that President Trump acted to deny the most dangerous regime in the world weapons most dangerous in the world”, Netanyahu added.
Iran has always maintained that its facilities are not for military purposes, meaning that they are not used to manufacture weapons, but to produce energy, an idea that the foreign minister emphasized again after the US attacks on Saturday.
Since the beginning of the attacks between Iran and Israel on June 13, the question of whether the US would intervene or remain on the sidelines was on the table.
Now, after the attacks, it remains to be seen how Iran will respond.
In his TV appearance on Saturday, Trump warned Tehran that it must focus on peace. “If they don’t, future attacks will be much bigger.”
Meanwhile, BBC journalists on the ground report hearing multiple explosions over Jerusalem and sirens in Jordan, while the Israeli military said Sunday that its defense systems are working to intercept Iranian missiles.
