Israel leaves glimpse that Trump could give them the green light to attack Iran again
The US and Israel say their intelligence services are monitoring Iranian actions around its nuclear facilities.
Israel is not ruling out further military operations against Iran regardless of the progress of any potential negotiations involving the United States, Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer said, if Tehran insists on a nuclear program.
"We will continue with our operation to eliminate these threats," he said Dermer, referring to Iran's nuclear and missile programs. “If Iran decides to meet with the U.S. and accept terms that it should have accepted a month, two weeks, or two months ago, that’s Iran’s decision.” Israeli officials say Netanyahu is seeking a deal with Trump on future U.S. nuclear negotiations with Iran and on possible scenarios that would justify further military strikes. Senior Netanyahu adviser Ron Dermer told officials in closed-door briefings that he had the impression after a recent visit to Washington that Trump would support further Israeli strikes against Iran under certain circumstances, according to multiple sources. One scenario would be an Iranian attempt to remove highly enriched uranium from damaged facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Another possibility would be for the Iranians to begin rebuilding their nuclear program, particularly their enrichment facilities. Dermer met last week with Vice President Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and White House envoy Steve Witkoff, Israeli officials said. Trump has also said twice since the end of the 12-day war between Israel and Iran that the United States could attack Iran again in the future if it resumes uranium enrichment. However, he has also expressed a desire to reach a negotiated settlement and avoid further conflict.
