Lula criticizes the sanctions of the United States to Brazilian judges in the Bolsonaro case
The US sanctioned the judges because former President Bolsonaro was forced to wear an electronic anklet for obstructing the process he faces
Bolsonaro, who governed Brazil from 2019 to 2022, is on trial for allegedly conspiring to ignore the result of the last presidential elections, in which he was defeated by Lula.
The United States sanctioned the Brazilian judges on Friday hours after Bolsonaro was forced to wear an electronic anklet and remain in Brasilia for allegedly obstructing the process he faces.
The Supreme Federal Court also ordered the former president not to approach embassies or authorities of other countries, nor to use social media. Bolsonaro, who maintains his innocence, denounced a "supreme humiliation" by the magistrates.
Lula denounces "arbitrary measure" by Washington
The visa revocations announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio apply to Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, the judges who support Moraes, and their immediate family members.
"My solidarity and support to the justices of the Supreme Federal Court affected by another arbitrary and completely unfounded measure by the United States government," Lula said Saturday in a statement released by the presidency.
"The interference of one country in the justice system of another is unacceptable and violates the basic principles of respect and sovereignty between nations," Lula added in the text, also published on the social network X.
Jair Bolsonaro's son, Eduardo Bolsonaro, stepped down from his post as a congressman in March and moved to the United States, where he is in contact with authorities and legislators from Trump's Republican Party to promote sanctions against Brazilian authorities, including those who are trying his father.
