FBI arrests three men for financing drone attacks against US troops
Three subjects were arrested by the FBI when it was confirmed that they had sworn allegiance to ISIS and were plotting to attack the US armed forces.
Bisaam Ghafoor, Elias Shamsaldeen and Bereen Dzayee, were arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on charges of allegedly providing material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) with the aim of harming US troops.
According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), the plans of these subjects were discovered through their conversations carried out through Discord chats.
Based on a complaint filed in the District of Kansas for allegedly conspiring to provide material support to terrorism, an operation was organized to arrest Ghafoor, a 21-year-old resident of Leawood, Kansas; Shamsaldeen, of Porterville, California, also 21 years old; and Dzayee, a 25-year-old resident of Lakeside, California.
Through a statement, Kash Patel, director of the FBI, pointed out that the strategy consisted of making them believe that they would meet with a member of ISIS to whom they had to give $2,000 dollars to support their cause, since previously, through Discord chats, voice calls and other messaging platforms, they had sworn allegiance to said terrorist organization.
"The success of this operation once again demonstrates the FBI's track record in preventing terrorist attacks, the best way to defend the homeland, and shows that we will spare no effort to protect Americans from those who seek to harm us. I want to thank our teams in Kansas City, San Diego, Sacramento, Newark and Richmond, and the Counterterrorism Division for their excellent work in this investigation and their commitment to the mission," the official wrote.
The arrest operation report mentions that, from February 2025 to around June 2026, the suspects exchanged various plans to support ISIS, including the provision of personnel, services and money.
To carry out their plans to attack the nation's Special Forces, the detainees intended to use attack drones.
As part of the analysis of communications between the detainees, it was found that Shamsaldeen openly expressed his desire to stab and injure a US service member; while Ghafoor was inclined to kill a female soldier by beheading her.
