Trump asks followers to cease attacks over Epstein files
The US president defended his attorney general, who is the target of criticism from an incredulous MAGA base
President Donald Trump urged his supporters to stop attacks on his administration over the files related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a case that has become an obsession for conspiracy theorists.
The Department of Justice and the FBI concluded in a report released last week that there was no evidence that the former financier, accused of running a child sex trafficking ring, kept a “client list” or blackmailed powerful figures.
They also confirmed that Epstein committed suicide in a New York jail in 2019, which dismantles one of the theories that he was murdered. They also announced that they would not make any further information about the investigation public.
Trump responds to criticism
The decision was met with incredulity by the American far right, members of which have supported Trump for years, and they launched strong criticism against Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel.
“What about my 'boys' and, in some cases, 'girls'? They are all behind Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a fantastic job!” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social network.
“We are one team MAGA and I don’t like what’s going on. We have a perfect administration, the talk of the world and 'selfish people' are trying to hurt it, all over one guy who never dies, Jeffrey Epstein,” the Republican added, using the acronym for his “Make America Great Again” movement.
Disbelieving Followers
Die-hard MAGA supporters have been left unsatisfied with the findings, as Trump, Bondi, and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino all promised before the start of this administration to reveal “the truth” about the case.
Many MAGA loyalists maintain that the so-called “Deep State” was hiding information about Epstein’s elite associates.
“Next thing the DOJ is going to say is ‘Actually, Jeffrey Epstein didn’t even exist,’” tweeted Alex Jones, a loyal Trump supporter. “This is so sickening,” she continued.
Far-right influencer Laura Loomer, one of the biggest public MAGA figures and closest to Trump, said on X that “Trump should fire” Bondi.
Loomer on Saturday reiterated her demand for Bondi’s resignation, calling her “Scam Blondi,” a call echoed by figures like Megyn Kelly.
“As someone who is fairly connected to all factions of the MAGA base, I can’t sugarcoat how much goodwill Pam ‘Blondi’ has cost the Trump Administration with its base this week. She is a huge liability for President Trump,” she wrote on X.
Mogul blames Democrats
But on Saturday, Trump suggested the so-called “Epstein files” were a hoax by the Democratic Party, without specifying what leverage they might gain from the matter.
“Let’s not waste time and energy on Jeffrey Epstein, someone nobody cares about,” she added.
The president asked Patel and Bondi to focus on what Trump calls “the rigged and stolen 2020 election,” which he lost to Joe Biden.
“Conspiracy theories are simply not true,” Patel said Saturday, hours before Trump’s post on her social media.
Trump, who appears in a video from several years ago at a party with Epstein, has denied that he was named in the case files or that he had any connection to the financier.
During the campaign, Trump said he would have “no problem” making the related files public.
