Trump says Iran notified them in advance of the attack and calls their response “weak”
Trump said there would be no escalation of the military conflict between Tehran and Washington, while thanking Iran for warning of counterattacks
President Donald Trump said he would not seek to escalate the military conflict with Iran despite Tehran firing missiles at a US base in Qatar on Monday in a retaliatory attack, writing on Truth Social that “IT TIME FOR PEACE.”
Trump even claimed that Iran notified the US in advance of the bombing that Tehran carried out today against its air base in Qatar and described the attack as “very weak.”
I want to thank Iran for giving us advance notice, which allowed no lives to be lost and no one to be injured. Perhaps Iran can now move towards peace and harmony in the region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same, he said on his social network, Truth Social.
Then, the US president published another short message in which he wrote “CONGRATULATIONS, WORLD, IT'S TIME FOR PEACE!”
The Iranian attack on the Al Udeid base, the largest US base in the entire Middle East, was carried out with short- and medium-range ballistic missiles in retaliation for the bombing that Washington carried out over the weekend on key interests of Tehran's nuclear program.
Iran officially responded to our destruction of their nuclear facilities with a very weak response, something we expected and have countered very effectively. 14 missiles were fired, 13 were shot down, and one was released as it was heading in a non-threatening direction, Trump wrote in the first of the newly published messages on Truth Social.
“I am happy to report that no Americans were harmed and virtually no damage was caused. Most importantly, (the Iranians) have let off steam and hopefully there will be no more hate,” he added.
The Iranian counterattack is believed to have been designed to prevent further escalation of the war in the region, since, in addition to advance notice, Tehran had warned days ago that it could bomb US bases in the Middle East if attacked by Washington and, consequently, Al Udeid had already been partially evacuated when the offensive took place today.
