Belgium raises its hand as a candidate before the 2026 World Cup
Led by Jeremy Doku, Belgium beat the Tunisian team 5-0. The Belgian team is already heading towards its World Cup debut against Egypt
A rout led by Jeremy Doku, Manchester City's overflowing winger, launched the Belgian team this Saturday not only towards a 5-0 victory against Tunisia, but also towards its debut in the 2026 World Cup on June 15 against Egypt, after an indisputable victory in a convincing test in Brussels.
The first two goals were eleven against eleven. First Leandro Trossard scored the 1-0 in the 28th minute and then Charles De Keteleare added the 2-0 in the 52nd minute.
The other three goals were due to the numerical superiority of the 'Red Devils', who scored 3-0 through Kevin de Bruyne, 4-0 by Dodi Lukebakio and 5-0 by Nicolas Raskin since Tunisian Ismael Gharbi was sent off for a double yellow onwards.
With Eden Hazard as a spectator in the stands, the game was broken by Doku, amid the enthusiasm of the fans with each of his dribbles. His pass to Trossard opened the scoring before the half hour mark.
Afterwards, Youri Tielemans focused on the 2-0 lead for De Keteleare's header, who played as the most advanced man, at the beginning of the second half.
Tunisia's numerical inferiority amplified the difference between both teams, before the rout. Doku once again assisted De Bruyne in the 3-0, clearly in force in Belgium, in the direction of starting the game in the debut against Egypt and beyond.
Goals from Lukebakio, who came on in the 74th minute for Trossard, and Raskin, in the 80th for De Bruyne, rounded it out to 5-0.
There were also minutes for Matías Fernández-Pardo, who also played in the 2-0 victory against Croatia on June 2 and came on in the 74th minute for Doku, like Axel Witsel, inserted as a center back. Romelu Lukaku played more. From minute 66.
Belgium is in group G of the 2026 World Cup, along with Egypt, Iran and New Zealand, while Tunisia competes in group F, with the Netherlands, Japan and Sweden.
