Chris Christie questions the credibility of the Department of Justice
Chris Christie considers it damaging to the credibility of the Department of Justice that it is being used by Donald Trump to take revenge on his political rivals
Chris Christie, former governor of New Jersey, states that the credibility of the Department of Justice (DOJ) has been called into question during the current federal administration.
During an appearance on the ABC program "This Week," the Republican railed against the DOJ, arguing that, in his view, it has dedicated itself to proceed those whom the president perceives as his alleged political enemies.
“Previous Justice Departments, before this one, took the presentation of charges before a grand jury and the request for indictment of a fellow American very seriously. And what we are witnessing now is the absolute destruction of the credibility of the Justice Department,” he stated.
Since his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, Christie warned that if Trump returned to the White House, he would use his power as president to demand that prosecutors prosecute those who did not share his views and that the DOJ provide all necessary support to create the conditions necessary to fulfill that purpose.
“Donald Trump is not content with being president. He wants to be the prosecutor in every district where he has an enemy, so he can make the decisions. There will be no one around to put up barriers, and he will be on a vendetta tour against every enemy he perceives. That is terrifying for the country,” he warned as recently as September of last year. same television program.
Five months later, the 63-year-old conservative criticized the New York tycoon for the alleged negative impact it will have on the credibility of the DOJ, which he maintains will prevail for a long time.
“The damage being done here with this purely vendetta-driven process is long-term. And it will be very, very difficult to repair over the course of the next decade,” he emphasized.
Christie also indicated that several Republicans share his point of view, but do not dare to publicly express their disagreements with Donald Trump's actions.
“Many of my party colleagues, especially because I say all this out loud, tell me: 'You're very brave. That's great. I totally agree with you. He's crazy,'” he emphasized.
