George Santos, former Republican representative, announces he will leave NY because of Zohran Mamdani
George Santos says he's leaving New York to avoid dealing with Zohran Mamdani as mayor
Despite having been sentenced to 87 months in prison for several frauds he committed against people who supported him in his bid to become representative for New York's 3rd Congressional District, the 37-year-old former Republican was released from prison a couple of weeks ago thanks to the surprising leniency shown by the nation's leader in granting him a controversial pardon.
With all the crimes he committed erased, Santos avoided having to return $578,752.94 in restitution to his victims.
However, instead of staying out of the controversy, the former Republican continues to make controversial comments.
Just days after leaving the Federal Correctional Institution in Fairton, in southern New Jersey, he announced his intention to fight for prison reform, stating that there are irregularities in the Prisons that affect the lives of inmates and their possible reintegration into society.
As if this weren't enough, in an action aimed at capturing the attention of New Yorkers, George Santos recently announced his intention to leave New York in protest against the election victory of Democrat Zohran Mamdani, who will soon serve as mayor of the "Iron City."
"Good luck, New York. It was a pleasure knowing you. After 37 years, I'm retiring. I prefer the evil I know to the evil I don't want to know," he stated in a video shared on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
However, the former representative's alleged decision simply corroborates his rejection of the Democrats, as he had already expressed days earlier in another message posted on the same platform.“New York will become a very dangerous place to live if we elect Mayor Mamdani, and that’s a risk I’m not willing to take now that I want to start my family,” he emphasized.
