Marjorie Taylor Greene resigns from Congress to avoid being mistreated by Donald Trump
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene fears facing President Donald Trump's anger directed at her and chooses to resign from Congress
Marjorie Taylor Greene, representative for Georgia, announced that she will leave Congress in January, fearing that she will suffer exhausting pressure from President Donald Trump, which would ultimately harm the Republican Party itself.
In a lengthy statement, the controversial 51-year-old explained that after breaking ties with the president, she foresees a more hostile environment toward her and, out of dignity, considers it more appropriate to step aside from her career.
“I have too much self-respect and dignity, I love my family too much, and I don't want my beloved district to have to endure a painful and hateful primary against me by the president we all fought for, just so that I can win the election while the Republicans probably lose the midterms,” she stated.
Another reason behind her decision to leave Congress is related to her refusal to defend the president against a possible impeachment trial, which she believes could occur, as she made it clear I would consider it inconsistent given how he has publicly attacked her.
“I am expected to defend the president against impeachment after he hatefully spent tens of millions of dollars against me and tried to destroy me. I refuse to be a 'battered woman' waiting for everything to go away and get better,” she emphasized.
Taylor Greene also recalled how she decided to support Trump over her family when her mother was facing a very difficult situation, and in the end, that wasn't even appreciated by the man who governs in the White House, who now only makes derogatory comments, considering her unhinged.
“I will never forget the day I had to leave my mother, as my father had cancerous tumors removed for brain surgery, so I could fly to Washington, D.C., to defend President Trump and vote NO on the Democrat's second impeachment trial in 2021.
My poor father and my poor mother, it was too much. Loyalty must be a two-way street,” she said.
Given the unexpected stance taken by Marjorie Taylor Greene, it is projected that January 5 will be her last day as representative for Georgia's 14th Congressional District.
