Noem proposes to Trump a ban on travel to the US for people from countries that feel 'invaders'
The Secretary of Homeland Security suggested imposing a total travel ban on countries that she says send
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said that, after a meeting with President Donald Trump, she recommended a total travel ban on all countries that she says send dangerous immigrants to the United States.
“I just met with the president. I am recommending a total travel ban on all countries that have been flooding our nation with murderers, leeches, and entitlement addicts," Noem said. "Our ancestors built this nation with blood, sweat, and an unyielding love of liberty, not for foreign invaders to massacre our heroes, drain our hard-earned taxes, or steal the benefits we owe to Americans. We don't want them. Not one of them," the Homeland Security Secretary's message concluded. Noem's comments come after an Afghan migrant shot two National Guard members in Washington last week, one of whom died. Noem criticized the process, stating that Lakanwal was not properly vetted and blaming the Biden administration for what she described as inadequate vetting of Afghans and other foreign nationals during President Joe Biden's term.
Noem said investigators believe the accused, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, was already living in Washington state when he adopted extremist views.
“We believe he became radicalized after coming to this country,” she told NBC News. “We believe it was through connections in his community and state, and we will continue to speak with those who interacted with him, his family members.”
In the wake of the attack, Trump himself announced that asylum applications are frozen until standards for reviewing each claim are tightened and that he has halted all immigration processing for Afghan nationals, including those who had worked with US forces. He has also threatened to “permanently” block immigration from what he has called “Third World countries,” although without specifying which countries these would be be.
