Sheinbaum celebrates AMLO's new book and affirms that his Government is 'very strong'
Sheinbaum applauded AMLO's public reappearance after having left office so that she could assume it on October 1, 2024
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum celebrated "with great affection" the new book announced by former President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (2018-2024), and considered that it will not be necessary that the former president return to the public sphere, since his government is “very strong” and “united.”
Lopez Obrador surprised everyone by reappearing in the media spotlight to promote his book 'Grandeza' (Greatness), after more than a year away from the limelight.
In a nearly hour-long video, the former president stated that he decided to present his book online and not in a public square because “we shouldn't overshadow the mayor” Sheinbaum.
AMLO commented that he would only go out in public for three reasons: if there were an attack “against democracy,” to defend Sheinbaum if there were an attempted coup or “if she is harassed,” and to defend Mexico's sovereignty.
Approached by journalists, Sheinbaum considered that the above would not happen because her government is “very strong.”
At a public event, Sheinbaum applauded Lopez's public reappearance Obrador, after having left office so that she could assume it on October 1, 2024.
Sheinbaum commented that 'Grandeza' is expected to be available in bookstores starting next week, and noted that the work comes shortly after she published her book 'Diary of a Historical Transition' last October.
The Mexican president highlighted that 'Grandeza' recognizes the cultural richness of “the great civilizations that formed what we now call Mexico,” from the Olmec culture, through the Maya and the Mexica, among others.
“It talks about how the Spanish did not arrive to civilize, as we were once taught in school,” she emphasized, while criticizing that the “Spanish invasion” arrived in Mexico with a “gold rush,” which led them to carry out massacres and enslave the native inhabitants.
Sheinbaum also recalled the tour three-month national tour that they both undertook during the government transition,an experience she recounts in her first book as president. During that tour, she recalled, Lopez Obrador told her that the struggle of the movement they lead represents “thought and action,” and she applauded the former president for continuing that struggle “through thought,” through his work and legacy. “So we warmly welcome this book so that everyone can read it and remember that we are part of a social movement,” she stated.
