Sheinbaum warns that “no foreign power” is going to say “how we govern”
The Mexican president assured that those who seek foreign intervention in Mexico “are destined to defeat”
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, highlighted this Tuesday national sovereignty as a central axis of her Government and launched a direct warning to any external actor, to signal ar that “no foreign power is going to tell Mexicans how we govern ourselves”, in the amid of the pressures from Washington to strengthen the combat on drug trafficking in the country.
During her speech at the commemoration of the Battle of Puebla, which takes place on this 5 of May, the president took the opportunity to link the foreign interventions of the 19th century with the present day, but underlined that the defense of independence is still in force.
“The people of Mexico make no wrong when it comes to defend national sovereignty,” said the head of state, to l time insisted that “nothing can be above the sovereignty and the interests of the people of Mexico.”
Sheinbaum recalled that the invasions to Mexico were justified with legal arguments from the outside, since they were sustained “in all cases in legal suppositions from the invader's perspective,” he noted.
The president also took the opportunity to point out that those who seek foreign intervention in Mexico “are destined to defeat” and, even, sent a clear message to the United States.
“To our neighbors, to the United States, we say: let's remember the great moment of relationship between (the presidents) (Benito) Juárez and (Abraham) Lincoln. E "The recognition of the Republic and the support for Juárez is one of the most laudable actions in our historical relationship," Sheinbaum from Puebla (center).
However, he made it clear that the bilateral relationship must be based on mutual respect and non-intervention, by reiterating that Mexico will maintain a firm position in defense of its self-determination.
“We are free, like the indigenous who headed to the mountains during the conquest to preserve their right to organize how they decided. We are a people who love their freedom, its independence, its sovereignty and we are always willing to defend it. Freedom and independence are justice and sovereignty,” the Mexican president asserted.
Last week, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the formal indictment against the current governor of Sinaloa (oe ste), the official Rubén Rocha Moya, of links with drug trafficking, which has generated a political storm in Mexico. EFE
