The holy festival of Jyeshtha Amavasya falls on 6th June this year, a day dedicated to appeasing the ancestors. It is believed that if the ancestors are displeased, it leads to Pitra Dosh, causing various problems. Hence, on the day of Jyeshtha Amavasya, it is customary to worship and make offerings to them after taking a bath. This year, Jyeshtha Amavasya begins from 07:54 pm on 5th June to 06:07 pm on 6th June.

Significance of Appeasing Ancestors:

Astrologer Dr. Krishna Kumar Bhargava from Tirupati explains the consequences of displeased ancestors. According to religious beliefs, ancestors come to earth on Amavasya and expect their descendants to honor and satisfy them. Failure to do so results in their displeasure and anger, leading to Pitra Dosh, which can cause:

1. Curses for childlessness, disrupting the lineage.
2. Conflict and unrest within the family.
3. Obstacles in progress and success.
4. Physical ailments affecting family members.
5. Impediments in business and career growth.

Rituals to Appease Angry Ancestors:

1. After bathing in the morning, wear white clothes and offer water to the ancestors using black sesame, white flowers, and kusha. Offering water as Tarpan satisfies the ancestors.
2. Perform Pinddaan, Shradh, Panchbali Karma, etc., to honor the ancestors on Amavasya. Neglecting these rituals may lead to their displeasure.
3. Donate white clothes, fruits, and food to poor Brahmins as offerings for the ancestors.
4. Perform Tripindi Shraddha rituals to alleviate Pitra Dosh, following the prescribed traditions.
