Robert Garcia: Zurdo Ramirez vs. Benavidez will be a great fight for Mexico
Robert Garcia did not hide his excitement for this fight that would pit two of the biggest names in Mexican boxing against each other on May 2nd
Trainer Robert Garcia assured that the potential cruiserweight clash between champions Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez and David Benavidez will be a great fight for the people of Mexico.
In an interview with ESNEWS, Garcia didn't hide his excitement for this bout, which would pit two of the biggest names in Mexican boxing against each other on May 2nd.
“Zurdo has great qualities. He's the cruiserweight champion, and now Benavidez is challenging him. It's amazing; it will be a great fight for Mexico,” said the renowned trainer.
After his dominant victory over Anthony Yarde last weekend, David Benavidez confirmed that he will fight the unified cruiserweight champion in 2026, seeking to become a champion in that division as well.
Both Mexican fighters have expressed interest in facing each other in recent months, and if everything goes as planned, the two champions could soon move up to the ring.
Remember that Zurdo Ramirez is coming off a successful defense of his World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) 200-pound titles against Yuniel Dorticos in his last fight, and will now have a tune-up fight against Robin Safar on January 16 to see how his shoulder is doing after undergoing surgery.
David Benavidez, 29, successfully defended his WBC light heavyweight championship and could now fight Zurdo Ramirez. The Mexican Monster has a record of 31 wins, 25 of them by knockout, and no losses in his professional career.
Meanwhile, Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez, 34, retained his WBO and WBA titles after defeating Yuniel Dorticos. As a professional, the Sinaloa boxer has a record of 47 wins, 30 of them by knockout, and one loss in his career.
