Boots Ennis’ trainer chooses Crawford to beat Canelo
Bozy Ennis said that Crawford is an intelligent fighter and mentioned the possible strategy he would suggest so he can finish Canelo Alvarez
Derek 'Bozy' Ennis, Jaron 'Boots' Ennis' trainer, chose Terence Crawford as his favorite to win the fight he will have with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on September 13 in Las Vegas and where the undisputed championship will be at stake super middleweight.
In an interview with Fighthype, Bozy Ennis stated that Crawford is an intelligent fighter and mentioned the possible strategy he would suggest so he can come out with his arm raised against Canelo Álvarez.
“I’m leaning towards Terence. He and Boots are similar weight-wise. Boots lifts a lot of weight. (…) That’s an ideal weight for Terence. I think he can handle him. There’s something people don’t understand about Terence: he knows how to box and he’s smart in boxing. He doesn’t waste punches. If I were the one training him (Crawford), I would have him frustrate Canelo. That’s what I would do to him. I would land good combinations. Canelo has to be ready to throw punches,” he said.
“If Crawford boxes and moves, he doesn’t like nobody to box and move. That’s what Crawford is going to do. This is what I would tell him to do: box him and land good punches. Prepare him. As soon as (Canelo) “get ready to throw, I would tie him up and take him to the center. I would repeat it over and over again. And once you start doing that, they lose their cool. Then they are open to all kinds of punches,” he added.
According to some experts' predictions, Crawford will be at a disadvantage due to his weight and will not be able to defeat the Mexican, but others believe that size will not be an issue, since the American has the necessary skills to beat the 168-pound champion on his own turf.
After the fight with Cuban William Scull, where the Mexican fighter was criticized for his lackluster performance, many experts in the sport have changed their minds and see Bud with real opportunities to win because they think the Guadalajara native is in decline.
If the American wins, he would become a three-time undisputed champion in different weight classes and would make history in the sport, while Canelo Álvarez could end Crawford's undefeated record and send him into retirement.
Terence Crawford, 38, became a four-division champion by defeating Israil Madrimov and remains one of the best pound-for-pound fighters. The undisputed two-time American champion now has 41 wins, 31 of them by knockouts.
Meanwhile, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, 34, became the undisputed super middleweight champion for the second time after defeating William Scull and now has a record of 63 wins (39 by knockout), two losses, and two draws in his professional career.
