The planning of the boxing season in the southern hemisphere has defined one of the most followed comebacks by analysts of the discipline. After completing a prolonged period of inactivity in the ring, American boxer Jermall Charlo has already determined the official date on which he will compete in his second professional commitment since he formally resumed high-performance training.

The former world champion of two weight classes will travel to Australian territory to be part of one of the highest commercial profile cards scheduled for the season.

The boxer will face local contender Koen Mazoudier on July 26 in Sydney, in an event that will serve as a backup to the main event between Errol Spence Jr. and Tim Tszyu.

Jermall Charlo's path to regain validity

At 36 years old, the athlete seeks to consolidate a constant level of performance after having overcome personal difficulties that affected the development of his career.

Last year, during the evening of May 31, 2025 in Las Vegas, Jermall Charlo achieved a fast-track victory in the sixth round against Thomas LaManna, which represented the first sign of his revival after a pause of almost four years.

"It feels good to be back. I felt good, I got to work and I knew my timing was there. I'm just looking to stay active and relevant, no more dark places and keep my head straight," the boxer told the Premier Boxing Champions broadcast consortium after finishing their fight in Nevada City.

The last important defense that the athlete made before his prolonged distance from the sport was recorded in June 2021.

Since then, the boxer faced a complex panorama that involved a series of physical injuries, emotional recovery processes and various legal problems that prevented the mandatory defense of his world championship.

Isolation processes and emotional treatment

The forced inactivity and lack of contact with the media generated various speculations in the sports environment about the athlete's state of health. In interviews later granted to the specialized media DAZN, the boxer detailed the complications he faced due to the lack of specialized support and the mechanisms he used to mitigate his emotional state.

"I was going through a time where I needed someone to talk to, but I kept it all to myself. I tried to act strong, I tried to have drinks and drinks with everyone, thinking that would help me, but I did things that made it worse," Jermall Charlo explained, detailing how prolonged isolation in his Texas residence affected his fitness habits.

The opponent in turn for the July match in Sydney has a track record based on the oceanic 168-pound market.

Local fighter Koen Mazoudier, 28, has a record of eleven wins and three losses on the rented plane, which represents a technical challenge due to his greater physical size and familiarity with the combat environment.
