Harry Kane leads the way as Bayern eliminate Flamengo in a frantic duel
Bavarians win 4-2 in Miami after an intense two-legged match and advance to the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup
With fast-paced football, long-range goals and constant pressure, Bayern Munich beat Flamengo 4-2 this Sunday at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup. Harry Kane was the star of the match with a brace that sealed a tie packed with emotion, pace, and intensity.
From the start, the Germans made their intention to dominate clear. It took them less than five minutes to break the deadlock, thanks to an unfortunate deflection by Chilean Erick Pulgar into his own goal after a corner taken by Joshua Kimmich.
And without giving them a moment's respite, the second came. Dayot Upamecano won the ball back in the opposition's half, passed it to Kane, and the Englishman was unforgiving: control, half-turn, and shot just wide of the post to make it 2-0. Only nine minutes had passed.
Flamengo reacted but it wasn't enough
Despite the early blow, Flamengo didn't crumble. With Gerson leading the midfield, the Brazilians began to create danger. Gerson himself pulled one back in the 30th minute with a powerful shot that beat Manuel Neuer.
But just when it looked like Filipe Luis's side were getting back into the game, Leon Goretzka appeared. He took advantage of a short clearance and, from about 30 yards, fired past Agustin Rossi to make it 3-1 before halftime.
Just after the start of the second half, a handball by Michael Olise was awarded a penalty. Jorginho calmly converted it and gave Mengao hope. However, the hope was short-lived: Pavlovic stole a ball in the opposition's half, Kimmich filtered through for Kane, and the Englishman finished with precision to put the score on the board.
Bayern faces PSG in the quarterfinals
Coach Vincent Kompany praised the opponent's level: "It didn't feel too different from when we played the toughest matches in Europe." He also praised the attitude of his players: "We knew when to push and when to regulate the pace, especially in the heat."
For his part, Flamengo bids farewell after battling until the very end. Their performance on the group stage and their commitment against Bayern left a positive impression, acknowledged by their fans with applause despite the elimination.
