Javier Mascherano highlighted the hierarchy of the Mexican teams
Within the framework of the Leagues Cup 2025, Mascherano does not underestimate the level of the Liga MX clubs. Inter Miami will face Atlas
The Leagues Cup 2025 will be a new tournament that will measure the levels of Liga MX and Major League Soccer. Javier Mascherano, coach of Inter Miami, analyzed the level of the Mexican clubs. The Argentine strategist highlighted the hierarchy of the Mexican teams.
So far, the Leagues Cup has been won by two teams from the United States and two clubs from Mexico. Over the years, this tournament has become a "level gauge" between the two leagues. Mascherano doesn't underestimate the Liga MX teams.
"The MLS teams have been able to compete head-to-head with the Mexicans. In fact, they've been champions in the last two, haven't they?" I don't think that, even though Mexican soccer currently has top-tier teams, it will be an impediment to competing and having the aspiration of qualifying and reaching the top," said the Argentine strategist.
In this new edition, the first six matches between clubs from both leagues have taken place. So far, there are three wins for Liga MX and three draws in regulation time (New York City 0-3 Puebla; Tigres de la UANL 4-1 Houston Dynamo; and Pachuca 3-2 San Diego).
Toluca tied 2-2 against Columbus Crew in regulation time, but defeated them on penalties (4-2), Mazatlan did the same against Los Angeles FC after a 1-1 draw (10-11), but Club Leon fell to Montreal on penalties 1-1 (7-6).
Inter vs. Atlas
Lionel Messi's Inter Miami will face Club Atlas. The "Zorros" have not had a good start in the 2025 Apertura of Liga MX. The Mexican team has one win, one draw, and one loss in the local tournament. Javier Mascherano analyzed his opponent and believes they are having a good run, despite their inconsistencies. "Atlas is a very dynamic, awkward team, and they tend to mark players man-to-man. The truth is they're off to a good start. They're very dynamic, They don't need much in the way of playmaking to hurt you. They're a rival to be reckoned with, a rival to be respected, and hopefully we can get off to a good start and maintain our level," he explained.
