Luis Chavez trusts that he will be recovered for the 2026 World Cup
Luis Chavez will have 8 months to recover from surgery after tearing the cruciate ligament in his knee
Luis Chavez suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, but the Mexican has great faith that he will make it to the 2026 World Cup.
Chavez received permission from Dynamo Moscow to travel to Guadalajara where he will undergo surgery and complete his recovery.
"It's a shame what happened "Luis, we are dismayed, it was a training action, he had an ugly knee movement, it is not easy, we hope everything is okay, we are going to miss you, the losses of Luis and César Montes are considerable, they were doing things well," revealed Javier Aguirre.
The Mexican midfielder suffered the injury to his right knee that will take approximately six to eight months to recover from.
"I'm fine. Beyond the injury, I am calm about having surgery tomorrow (Monday). It will depend on how the operation comes out, but I hope to be in time for the World Cup," said midfielder Luis Chávez upon his arrival in Guadalajara after leaving the training camp.
Doctor sees Luis Chávez with great opportunities to go to the World Cup
Rafael Ortega will be the doctor in charge of the operation that will be performed this Monday. He will then begin his rehabilitation to be fully fit for the World Cup in Mexico.
"I see him with a good chance (going to the World Cup). The operation is something we do very regularly, I hope it goes without too many setbacks," Ortega explained.
Some examples of players who have recovered in less than a year after a torn ACL are Rodri of Manchester City and Dani Carvajal of Real Madrid.
Both players were injured between September and October 2024 and are already seeing action with their respective clubs. Although each case and recovery is different, Chávez could return to the field by April 2026.
Mexico is heading to the Gold Cup semifinals where it will face Honduras.
El Tri will play next Wednesday at Levi's Stadium at 7:00 pm (PT). The United States will face Guatemala in the other group.
