Alejandro Zendejas reappeared for the United States in the 3-2 victory over Senegal
Christian Pulisic led the United States' victory over Senegal 3-2, where Alejandro Zendejas played 14 minutes for the USMNT
Mexican forward Alejandro Zendejas once again saw action with the United States national team by playing 14 minutes in the 3-2 victory over Senegal in a duel held at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte and giving coach Mauricio Pochettino a break.
The player who plays for the Eagles entered the 76th minute to replace Sebastian Berhalter, in a duel in which Christian Pulisic, the great star of the North Americans, who had not had his best moment recently, but who contributed with a goal, shone again.
The two remaining goals of the North American team were scored by Sergiño Dest and Folarin Balogun in their penultimate test before the 2026 World Cup, just 12 days before their debut against Paraguay, where it is expected that the squad led by Mauricio Pochettino will already have its best version.
The victory calms the anger that existed in the North American fans after the defeats against Belgium (2-5) and Portugal (0-2) in March, on the last FIFA date and where they could not demonstrate their true ability.
The Argentine coach, in his desire to observe everyone called up, used two different teams in each half, where the first eleven came out very concentrated on the field and took the lead in the seventh minute of the game, with a goal from a Sergiño Dest who became a nominal forward to the center of Christian Pulisic, whom Ricardo Pepi had enabled in his foray down the left wing.
The Pulisic-Pepi duet once again bore fruit in the 20th minute, this time on the opposite wing, when the PSV Eindhoven forward assisted 'Captain America' into space, who avoided the goalkeeper's exit and scored between his legs.
With the score at 2-0, Senegal took a step forward and closed the gap before the break after a loss by the United States in the center of the field that left Pochettino's team unsettled. Habib Diarra drove 30 meters and assisted Sadio Mané, who did not forgive and brought Senegal closer.
The Africans took advantage of the change of players, where the United States only left Sebastian Berhalter, to tie the game with another defensive error, where Miles Robinson lost the ball in an attempt to play on the front line. Nicolas Jackson stood alone against Chris Brady, who came out late, and his shot ended up being pushed by Mané into the back of the net.
The United States, who had had their 3-2 lead disallowed for offside, saw Senegal tie 2-2. With the score tied, the referee disallowed another American goal for a foul inside the area, but in the 63rd minute, Monaco forward Folarin Balogun finished off a cross from Timothy Weah for the final 3-2.
The Americans will face Germany in the middle of the week and with that they will close their preparation to debut on June 12 against Paraguay, in a duel that is expected to be a litmus test for the Americans due to the Guarani's fierce style.
